@librarianmarli I agree! Levels be damned! When my son was in kindergarten he wasn't allowed to check out non-fiction, which he loves, because they were too hard. I took him to the book store and public library to get any non-fiction he wanted! #yearofya
A4- If I’m not vibing with a book I let it go and try something different - and I tell my students the same thing! It’s not a big deal to not finish a book if it’s not your thing. #YearofYA

A3 cont. I am also a big believer in letting kids check out WHATEVER they want, even if it’s way above/below “their level.” I ask if they have someone to lean on if they get stuck but always let them take it! They have to build the positive relationships/habits first. #YearofYA
A3 cont. For hesitant readers, I start with a personal connection first - by showing an interest in kids (or grownups!) they realize you’re invested and will take your suggestions more seriously. #YearofYA
A3- In the past I’ve incorporated book talks into the morning news! Showing my kiddos how much I love books and getting excited really seems to get them excited. #YearofYA
A4. I break up with books ALL THE TIME! I have such limited time these days that I can't devote time to something that doesn't capture my interest. I will sometimes try the audio book version if the print doesn't work for me. #YearofYA
#4 I make a quick break, if it isn't working why waste time - there are other books in the sea :-) I will say there have been books that I was not interested in but came back to and for some reason I was ready. The Red Tent was one of those books as was Walk Two Moons. #yearofya
@MolleeBranden We let the managers of our main two departments choose books so that it would be a selection that fit everyone. We'll see which ones get chosen. #YearofYA
@tavia_clark We host a book exchange with staff members - anyone that wants to join can - it is always a great group of people from all curriculum areas and all job descriptions in our building - great way to build community and our reading culture! #yearofya
