@RandySwift9@alicekeeler What is the why? Why do you multiply before adding? Why is Multiplication and division left to right? I'm all about teaching concept, I'm honestly asking if there is a conceptual reason for this, or if it is just conventions so we all are on the same page when talking math.
@jcorippo @SusanStewartEDU Hey! Several years ago at a CVCUE we had a keynote speaker talk about a road trip where they did a bunch of BBQ. Google tour builder??? something like that. Do you guys remember the platform? It allowed her to put pictures alongside the map.
@JeremyShorr @alicekeeler It is simply grammar. It is the order agreed upon so that when I write a formula, you know the process so that our answers are the same. It's simple grammar. They could have done it in a different order. But we need an order to have common outcomes.
@alicekeeler@RandySwift9 I'm not with you on this... how do we as mathematicians communicate and get to the same answer? The math "grammar" matters just as much as the rules in English so that communications occurs properly.
@alicekeeler Going to have to read your "why" on this. It is math grammar. Simply put, it is the rules that we have in order to make sure that we all have the same conversations in math. Why left to right? Because that way we all get the same answer with the same info
Proud to participate in this great event! Congrats to RVMS, Oak Grove, LJMS, & GAMS for great wins! Thanks to @HastonMath & students for all your hard work & dedication! #TCOE#MathSuperBowl@visaliausd
@edcampOSjr @mhammons @jcorippo @alicekeeler Thanks Ed! I had seen those programs before but thought they were all paid... I found the free one off this link!
I have a coding class... an advanced student wants to learn python... any good ways to learn python on Chromebook? @mhammons @jcorippo @alicekeeler @edcampOSjr
@alicekeeler@khanacademy I use @khanacademy in my math class several times a week. However, it is the independent work that is based off of what our learning was, and also an extension for students who complete the task. I am a fan of it. It is a tool though, not the teacher.
Suggestions for non-verbal autistic 8th grader performing at ~3rd grade math... khan academy has lost it's novelty... hoping for gamification, free and engaging.. #edtech
@jcorippo Hey I am trying to get the correct extension to borrow a coding robot from steampunk... is https://t.co/GCnMU1RObV the correct extension for chromebooks?
