Amid the swirl of allegations, what gets lost in the Professor Arday scandal is that other academics would have applied for that position at Cambridge - academics who behaved with integrity and were truthful about their credentials and were doubtless perfectly qualified to do the job. One of these individuals would have been denied the opportunity of a lifetime because the university was more interested in promoting a diversity poster boy. DEI isn't harmless. It can often have negative real-life consequences for those who don't possess the 'right' characteristics. We shouldn't forget that.
