@HistorywithMsBC Society at its worst. Not only do you need to be supported and protected that young person actually NEEDS consequences for actions so they can learn to live in society. Glad you had support from students/colleagues. Our soft approach benefits nobody. Thank u for your dedication
I gave them choice of task >>>> They gave me back self- directed, self- motivated, thinking, group work for some, individual work for others, risk, reason, explaining, communication. I am just sad to be losing these students soon #buildingthinkingclassrooms
5 tips to reduce stress of staff.
1) if asking to meet with them, let them know why.
2) Don't address an issue you have with one person with the whole staff.
3) praise a lot more than you critique
4) less meetings
5) continual encouragement and support
@Headteacherchat Learnt this in my first career as am actuary, but it's really earned it's value for me in teaching. Those things that fall into the delete box give me a sense of freedom to not do things, the rest gives me a sense of control and a clear "to do" list
All year this kid says, “I just know I am right in my head, I can’t explain it.” Today, - this and a verbal explanation to his peers. Unlocking what happens in his head might just change the world. #communication#softskills#buildingthinkingclassrooms@pgliljedahl

I agree but these are 2 of my favourite "go tos"
The first makes me think and adjust the big picture,my whole pedagogy. The second provides high quality, engaging tasks and lessons. Worth a wade through these 2.
Great task to start a stats unit, but I've always had to demonstrate my thinking to get kids started. My @pgliljedahl "grade8 thinkers" tackled it like pros today. Many solutions proposed, mistakes made, checked, adjusted, reasoned and argued about. I just sat back and watched
After so much success using 3 practices #buildingthinkinglearning@pgliljedahl with two of my classes last term, I went in guns blazing this morning with a third class (I should have known!). Resistance, complaining and not much thinking :( Will try again #lifelonglearning
