[Trevor Price @4x4RoadRunner01]

@AlanJLSmith We have also seen Labour lie about doing a proper "INDEPENDENT" #LoanChargeScandal review. The #McCannReview was a sham, restricted to getting #LoanCharge victims of mis-selling to pay up or else.

Government’s Review why critics say it falls short

[James Melville 🚜 @JamesMelville]

Yet more tax punishment against the self employed. This Labour government measure has the potential for HMRC to demand tax payments before the self employed have been paid by clients or customers for their work.

[Anna @HMRobbinCs]

Imagine my surprise.

#TaxPayerBillOfRights
#LoanChargeScandal

[Robert Colvile @rcolvile]

The changes to self-assessment taxation exemplify a system that's run for the convenience of the Treasury/HMRC, not the self-employed, sole traders and small businesses. That has to change.

[HMRCsick @HCsick]

@PolPulseUK What would happened if they were investigated externally?

[HMRCsick @HCsick]

@NotRichYoungFa1 @GuidoFawkes Wait...

[Jim Brown #LCAG🔴⚪ @NotRichYoungFa1]

@GuidoFawkes Labour wants HMRC, who responsible for at least 11 #LoanChargeSuicides from retrospective #LoanChargeScandal, to have powers to take money direct from bank accounts.

What could possibly go wrong?

[ContractorUK @itcontracting]

Frozen thresholds. The £100,000 trap. IR35, dividend tax and umbrella company rules.

That is what contractors are raising before John Healey stands up for his first Budget today.

ContractorUK is following along live, with what each announcement means for contractors.

@Stephen41792571 @TheRising_Moon @SueFlood52 @GabrielleO61890 @TaxJusticeUK @taxwatch @oliver_wright @loanchargeAPPG @SarahGreenLD @HMRCgovuk Especially after this new power to raid bank accounts at will, without oversight.

[HMRCsick @HCsick]

@donedgley1 @UKLabour The retrospective #LoanCharge and all the misery - including 4x operational costs to 1x revenues 'recovered' (even with add-on interest every which way) it brings obviously represents @UKLabour values, then? An epic tax policy failure, but there still isn't the will to end it.

[WrathOfMyBombast 🇺🇦 @Stephen41792571]

@TheRising_Moon @SueFlood52 @GabrielleO61890 @TaxJusticeUK @taxwatch @oliver_wright @loanchargeAPPG Great to see that my local MP @SarahGreenLD attended this talk. It's imperative that oversight of @HMRCgovuk is drastically overhauled. It's equally critical that we see some momentum behind a #TaxpayerBillOfRights to protect taxpayers from tyranny @loanchargeAPPG @taxwatch

[HMRCsick @HCsick]

@KapilYogi9494 No doubt many would like to think that this clawback measure was meant to be restricted to evaders, or instances where overpayments were made to hundreds of thousands of individuals. But this is HMRC, so they have ensured the power is wider and to be used at their discretion.

[Stephen Van Meegeren @erasmus_binks]

#HMRC are, and have been for some time, completely out of control.

Whether it’s the #LoanChargeScandal, #IR35, or snooping into wealthy people’s lives, their overreach is totally unchecked by Government.

[HMRCsick @HCsick]

@aNorthernGarden @KeillerDon 'Cash Cow Manager', perhaps?

[HMRCsick @HCsick]

@HMRobbinCs @StuartMaggs No, HMRC always follow the PR script of applying such legislation "in limited and specific circumstances", embedding it first before expanding the scope. No one realizes until it is a fait accompli and normalised. The politicians shrug.

[HMRCsick @HCsick]

@donedgley1 @HMRobbinCs @StuartMaggs Nudge nudge

[Richard Allen RAVAS @TheRising_Moon]

Just posted my account of the Loan Charge and Tax Payer Fairness APPG on the 20th of October over on Linkedin https://t.co/uBVJOyPWbV
Here I am with my MP Sarah Green one of a number who attended @SueFlood52
@GabrielleO61890
@TaxJusticeUK
@taxwatch @oliver_wright @loanchargeAPPG

[#LoanChargeScandal @loanchargeprey]

#loanchargescandal victims are very familiar with the type of phrasing used by their nudge unit in their 'friendly letters.

If I have any advice, I'd suggest never volunteering information to HMRC unless you are legally obliged to do so.

#loancharge #loanchargesuicides

[Stuart @StuartMaggs]

This letter could have been drafted much better. It could have clearly set out that it was a fully voluntary arrangement. It could have confirmed that lack of compliance does not increase the chance of enquiry, but it is likely to reduce the severity and depth as HMRC would be more familiar with your situation.

It could have explained the positive steps HMRC is taking to improve taxpayers' experience when enquiries do arise.

But instead the choices made by the draftsman imply a sword of Damocles-style "comply or else" situation.

That's bad for our tax system, and an opportunity missed.

[Sue Flood @SueFlood52]

To everyone who has sent me kind messages and wished me well following my collapse after giving evidence to the Loan Charge APPG on behalf of pension fraud victims, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Your kindness means more than words can say. I remain determined to fight for justice, recognition and accountability for victims who have lost so much through no fault of their own.
Our voices must be heard, our suffering must be acknowledged, and victims must never be forgotten.
Thank you for your support, your courage and your solidarity. ❤️
