I’ve been in the Web3 space since 2021, and I’m ashamed to say that for years…

I had no real idea what Web3 actually meant.

My Web3 journey started rather quick through NFT aggressive grind, IFYKYK lol😅

I just knew it had to do with crypto, NFTs, and “decentralization”

Understanding was rather slow because of the technicality of how it was explained to me

That’s why I’m starting a new series, Make #Web3 Make Sense

At the end of this post, two things will happen
- You will understand web3 in the most simplified way
- You will be fully onboarded to the Web3 space (finally lol)

Make Web3 Make Sense - Episode 1: What is Web3⁉️

Let’s start simple:
Web3 isn’t a new app or whatever you think…
It’s a new era of the internet where users and not the platforms, own their data, money and identity.

Before Web3, we have had web1 and web2

▪️Web1: Read-only
You visited websites → consumed info.
(Think 1990s blogs, Yahoo pages.)

▪️Web2: Read + Write
You could post, like, comment.
But the platforms owns your data. (Think Facebook, X, YouTube.)

▪️Web3: Read + Write + Own
You still interact but this time, you fully own what you create.

So what makes Web3 different?

Three words:
🔹 Ownership
🔹 Transparency
🔹 Decentralization

For example: On YouTube, the platform decides if you earn, who sees you, and when you get banned.

In Web3, ownership moves to creators.
Your work, your rules, your wallet.

So when next you hear people say “Web3 is the future,”
They are 100% correct, it means the internet is evolving from corporate control → community ownership.

Web3 is powered by:
•Blockchain: the database everyone can verify
•Smart contracts: code that executes automatically
•Tokens: digital assets with real utility
(These three components are broad, if you need more explanation, Comment ‘Web3 Components’)

We are still very much early and honestly It’s not perfect yet.
But it’s a good chance to join and start building
