Did you know that #NorthernIreland has one of the highest rates of #MultipleSclerosis in the world?
Yesterday, we were proud to launch a new research hub dedicated to tackling the condition. Based at Queen’s, the Northern Ireland #MSResearch Hub will bring together a collaborative team of experts to help accelerate globally leading research and improve the lives of people affected by the disease.
“When I was first diagnosed there weren’t the same opportunities to get involved in research as there are now – I am very happy in recent years that has changed.
… My main motivation for getting involved is it gives me the opportunity to help people who are newly diagnosed - giving my time for them is worthwhile and I am hopeful one day we will find a cure or even better stop #MS completely!” (Caroline Millar)

BLOG: Triptans and the risk of stroke or MI
In her latest blog, Dr Laura Darby discusses the use of Tripans for migraine.
Triptans are vasoconstrictors. Contraindications include uncontrolled hypertension or known vascular disease (IHD, PVD, previous TIA,CVA or MI). Cautions include CVD risk factors, elderly, history/ risk of seizures and mild, controlled hypertension.
The April edition of the Drugs and Therapeutics Bulletin contains a review of a Danish study that investigated the risk of MI, ischaemic or unspecified stroke after Triptan initiation.

Disc herniations can reduce in size by up 50% over a 12 month period BUT some patients continue to have 'Sciatica' symptoms...
Can this be explained by inflammation ?
Inflammatory cytokines and chemokines (IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-α) are released from herniated disc material causing
1️⃣ Increase pain sensitivity
2️⃣ Promote the release of other inflammatory cytokines
🔀 both leading to heightened neuropathic pain.
If the structural cause is reduced (disc compression) then inflammation may be playing a heightened role.
3️⃣ Practical Points to consider:
1. Consider treating sciatica as an inflammatory syndrome rather than a mechanical syndrome (in some patients).
2. How would you manage inflammation in other parts of the body?
3. Can this be replicated for sciatica?
You aren’t just loving your child. You’re setting the example that teaches them how to love.
The concept is on such vivid display in this video, shared to IG by mariaagrazia.
Watch how dad’s playful and affectionate interactions translate to his daughter’s subsequent “caregiving” behaviors as she tends to her favorite baby doll.
There’s little question: She’s dad’s little apprentice. And will continue to be.
Young children are the world’s keenest observers, mimicking the behaviors and words of those they love and trust.
It’s a huge responsibility. In our best moments and our worst, we are constant role models to our children. So be the one you want your child to reflect back into the world.
From reactive to proactive: Lived experience and the nursing role in #multiplesclerosis care. MS Academy will host a webinar in partnership with @MSUK6 and @RcnNeuroForum specifically for all nurses caring for people with MS.

Today is #WorldParkinsonDay and we’re raising awareness of the condition and our support services. If you or a loved one needs support, we're here. Call our helpline, 0808 800 0303, or visit https://t.co/5E6JLf4Ns0. Because, until we find a cure, there’s Parkinson’s UK. #WPD2025
On 4th April 2016 I walked into a #neurology clinic to be told I had #Parkinsons.
9 years later I walked onto an athletics track to sprint the 100m.
We can’t outrun Parkinsons but we can give it a good go. You never know how far you might get before it does #exercise 🙏🏼
New personal best - now that is something to celebrate 😀
