21 years ago, diagnosed with #breastcancer in October, she wore her pink ribbon proudly. It made her feel less alone. Two decades later, Marie Ennis O'Connor sees Pinktober differently...

Why are women (still!) under-represented in medical research?
"How are these research results still being submitted, peer-reviewed, accepted and published in medical journals when they continue to ignore over half the population?"

"How can clinicians help patients hold onto hope? Should hope be protected, even when being hopeful is unrealistic? Or should clinicians risk a loss of hope to ensure that patients understand their prognosis?”

Dear America,
We're not booing your hockey players.
We're not booing your country.
We're not even booing you.
We're booing your asshole of a president who keeps threatening our sovereignty for zero reason. Once he leaves us alone it'll stop.
Hope that clears it up for you.
@DrMarthaGulati Yes, that's my point: if a patient has to contact the researcher directly to ask for the non-Facebook survey link (because it's not included in the ask), it's more work for the patient. In other words, pls make it easier for participants to get to YES! 💕
A useful tip for all cardiac researchers recruiting survey participants: Every extra hoop you ask patients to jump through (e.g. not including a direct non-Facebook URL link to your survey) means another potential participant who will just move on. . .
💕
Do you wonder if drinking #coffee is good for you? @HeartSisters discusses benefit/risk for heart patients in her latest. Tho I fill a mug at least 3 times a day, I actually only drink 1-2 as I never seem to finish a cup. Are you a ☕️drinker? #heartdisease https://t.co/0L0DmvuNQM
One of my favorite pairs programs in my early days of figure skating fandom - Evgenia Shishkova/Vadim Naumov were playful in their musicality, original in their lifts, and phenomenal in their line. They won 1994 Worlds with this fun free skate
Please help us to help you.
We have collaborated with Adelaide University to develop a series of patients surveys.
The results will help to identify #ANOCA patients
& co-design future care pathways.
Please share with patients & clinicians

@shelagh_ross Some studies I read reported few if any differences between cardiac effects of consuming decaf or 'hi-test' coffee on palpitations...
I have friends who can't have chocolate desserts when we're out for dinner because they'd be "awake all night" - but are okay with coffee...
Coffee: good or bad for our hearts?
"The thinking about coffee’s effects on the heart has swung in both directions,” explains Harvard professor of medicine Dr. J. Michael Gaziano. Here's why we've had such mixed messages. . .

Implantable cardiac defibrillator shocks vs. "careful and kind" end-of-life care:
STUDY: "Even among patients with DNR orders, over half had their implanted defibrillators programmed "ON" just one hour before death...”

Coffee: a win-win for #AFib ?
“Atrial fibrillation is an independent risk factor for the development of cognitive impairments. Coffee consumption is associated with better cognitive performance in patients with atrial fibrillation..."

Reader comment replying to post re turning off defibrillators in end-of-life care:
"I was stunned at resistance from several staff. I asked them if they “really understood the consequences” of dying with an activated #ICD in place..."
