We spend 50% more hours in school than Finland. They get 15 mins of recess every hour. They have NO standardized tests except for PISA in HS & they outperform us every time. The irony is that they created their system based on US schools and US university research in the 1970's.
When Tier 1 is weak, lots of students look like they need intervention.
When Tier 2 is weak, lots of students look like they need Tier 3 or special education.
Strong investments in Tier 1 & Tier 2 is a critical starting place for prevention.
Access gaps = outcome gaps.
Part of teacher and student burnout is the ridiculous amount of time we spend in school. We could go only Mon- Thurs and still attend more hours than many nations Including Finland.

In 1970-71, education was the most popular field for U.S. undergraduates. Colleges issued 176,307 bachelor’s degrees in education that year, or 21% of all degrees conferred.
In 2019-20, less than 4% of bachelor degrees were in education.
From 21% to < 4%!!
Think about that. 🤔
