I'll talk about this once and just move on, because I don't feel it's worth the effort to try and win over people who don't like us or what we do.
A band reached out to us, like often happens, asking to check out their music and if we would share it. I liked it, so I shared it on here for our audience to check out.
As can happen on here, often, it left our target audience to a point where a handful of people who generally do not like any of our content or follow our account started trashing the band and their style (real metalcore vs not, etc etc).
One person made a post about getting sots to delete the post and it really bothered me to see someone celebrate, as I perceived it, getting us to delete the band. And then implying that I should have left it up and stood on business, but I honestly don't see the value in letting a group of people trash a small artist. I also don't understand how people can say they support small artists and then dump on them on here, but it is what it is.
It's fine if you don't like the content we post, or the music we're in to, I assume you'd just block us but I know hate on this website garners a lot of engagement so it'll likely never change.
I'm proud of all the artists we support big and small and will continue to spotlight as many of them as possible as we have for the last ten years. I will always listen to feedback, but only when I think it's coming from the right place.
What I don't want to do is spend my time on here arguing with people about what's real music, or deserves our love and attention, etc.
Appreciate everyone who follows and enjoys what we do.
Much love (especially if you even bothered to read this far).
anyone who doesnโt know what itโs like to run a podcast/publication isnโt allowed to have an opinion on @SOTSPodcast. pissed at who gets covered? make ur own, since u think diy music journalism is so easy. they put in the fuckin work and deserve loads of respect.
