In rigged animation, characters are often separated into groups so they can move independently.
But sometimes, a character needs to jump between groups. Making that transition seamless can be tricky!

One of the main tools I used in the boulder scene is cycles. The boulder and girls each have cycles for rolling/running left, right, and front. I then had them follow motion paths with perspective and arcs for a fluid motion. Tricky scene!

Honestly, I still have no idea who this Dante guy is (I wasn't really up to date with the TETOCU lore) but I did love animating him
He's so quick, snappy, and quiet, so I could really be cartoony... and I didn't have to do any lip sync lol

Tis is where I had to turn off my perfectionism (not that I was a great animator to begin with)
Trying to animate every classmate running off perfectly would've taken way too long, so I had to learn to let some things go.

If you've watched this episode, you might notice that the voice here sounds a little off. That's because the dialogue isn't always finalized at this stage, so the animatic sometimes use temp voices.

This was the first episode I worked on for the Captain Underpants series.
I felt like I was thrown onto a fast-moving treadmill since production had already been going for a while, and the frame quota was higher than on my previous production.

I've mentioned before that one of the benefits of rigged/cutout animation is being able to reuse drawings to save time but... not this time!
Because this character has different costumes every time, I had to redo the animation for each one 🫠

I'm uploading this despite an animation error 😔
At the end of the 4th scene, Krupp is still moving while raising his right hand. In the next scene, he's suddenly standing still while holding his camera with both hands.
Well... You live and learn.

In a rigged 2D animated show, each character has a library of drawings for different body parts.
In this scene, I redrew the hands (rough drawings with blue outlines) to add a bit of follow-through, which helps keep the rig from looking too stiff.

Both in 2D and 3D animation, animators often find little ways to cheat. Since this was a fairly long scene with a deadline, I saved time by only animating the parts of the body the audience could actually see.

Here's a peek at how cartoons are made in Adobe Flash!
In the second video, I go inside a Camera Symbol → Character Symbol → Head Symbol → Skull Symbol.
Symbols lets animators reuse drawings instead of redrawing every frame.

These scenes were about a year after I started working professionally, and I was much more used to Adobe Animate, posing, timing, deadlines, and everything else that came with the job.
Poor Mihos...

Animated in 2018
These were the very first scenes of my animation career. I was pretty stressed, and I was still getting used to cutout/rigged animation, so they turned out so-so.
Thankfully, I didn't get fired.
