Again, important to note that Disney movies (most of) were created during a time where the way they portrayed characters was normal to society and i dont think they were made with malintent.
I can see now that raising kids in the world as it is today, its important to keep them aware that we should be all-inclusive, and the realities of the world. I still value the fairytale and magic elements of the movies. I think its nice to have fiction to watch now and then
In conclusion to all of your wonderful responses to my tweet about Disney`s influence, I think the reason why this is even a topic of debate is due to the fact that our society has progressed to be increasingly politically correct.
Do you guys feel like youve been AFFECTED by the messages from disney movies? I personally think I would have to rewatch them at my age now to give a proper answer to this. But all in all I have only fond memories #lesson11
@HEduc307 I personally have only fond memories as well. As a child, you're not consciously aware of these bigger controversial issues. I think that the main thing is that these movies were not made with malicious or hateful intent. #lesson11
@Olivia_lem@HEduc307 Yes exactly! It's really interesting and important to learn about activism around the world when Western media tends to focus on the same topics
I obviously couldn’t comprehend things too deeply at the age when I was watching Disney movies. I really wasn’t paying attention to gender roles I just wanted to live in a castle and be a princess #lesson11
@OlielAdam Tbh i think most of the disney movies are such classics and I want my kids to see that. Because that won`t be the sole type of movie i show them. I think Id be more lighthearted with this. i dont personally think it should be taken so seriously
