It seems as if these developers thought that just because the site is allocated & the council is without a 5-year supply that this legitimises the building of cramped, poor quality homes without access to open space #thenewslums. Quite rightly refused.

https://t.co/9l3KyZAXEt PD rights give property owners too much flexibility & halt honest developments like this over fears around future use. Charity work would likely be a great use for this disused building, but no one wants housing on the park in years to come.. #thenewslums

https://t.co/9tvv7pNEKu Despite costing ridiculous amounts of money, this architecturally impressive plan for an addition to London’s skyline has been refused predominantly on climate/sustainability grounds! The future should see our planet being put first more often #thenewslums

https://t.co/ANXQslZ066 I’m all for repurposing derelict sites in the city centre but are more expensive, luxury apartments really what Leeds needs right now? Is this being done in the best interests of local residents or the Canadian pension fund? Hmm🤔 #thenewslums

[Heidi Boot @HeidiBoot101]

This is great to see; a local authority actively seeking sites for affordable housing rather than only prioritising profitable developments. Not only that, but also in sustainable locations (predominantly brownfield sites) which in turn protects the Green Belt! #thenewslums

https://t.co/uXcfPCAfVl When the demand for affordable housing is so high across the UK, why are councils discouraging their development and instead prioritising profit making? Land values really do underpin the planning system these days😩 #thenewslums

https://t.co/fLXWMHNvUm To every problem lies a solution…mass rebuilding will massively help to protect Harlow town from poorly planned, private developments & instead earmark areas for the council to develop, which will actually consider local peoples’ wellbeing! #thenewslums

https://t.co/YkcqyEc8rC Small spaces, such as our gardens, have huge impacts on the look and feel of where we live. Without plants, there will also be more pollutants in the air and fewer habitats for wildlife😢 This article provides advice for how to green your garden🌳🌻🍃

[Heidi Boot @HeidiBoot101]

How has this been consented?! Has no one considered the devastating impacts this will have on flooding, the urban heat island effect and climate change? Those fortunate enough to have gardens should retain its natural materials and green it with grass/shrubbery #thenewslums

https://t.co/muw3NBduIe Great to see old, derelict buildings being refurbished, reused & repurposed in ways that benefit the community by creating new jobs & high-quality public spaces. The buildings’ histories will soon be shared & celebrated with all their users! #thenewslums
