In 2011, after a bad day in the cockpit, my colleague returned and was complaining about the Training Captain he had flown with. He ended the long, painful conversation with, ‘Let me go back home to where people who love me are.’ Those words stuck with me. It was one of the reasons I didn't marry early. I wanted to be sure that when everything is going south, I can say, ‘Let me go back home to where people who love me are.’

I look forward to going home every day. I spent the last 8 days flying in Nigeria, and I always reminded my crew that we have to do the flights maintaining the highest standards of safety, because I have people who are waiting for me back home.

I have a daughter who loves me and believes I am Superman. I have a son who stops crying once he hears my voice.
