The only reason they are now trying to downplay Nigerian charts and dismiss local success is to distract from the issue of stream farming and the questions surrounding their non sold out shows.

When Wizkid was building his success organically, he carried a lot of people along. He didn’t just win alone ,he created moments that allowed managers, singers, promoters, and industry insiders to stand on global stages and feel like their dreams were coming true too. He never sidelined them. His wins felt collective. His global run opened doors not just for himself, but for Afrobeats as a movement.

But the moment another artist came in, did a stadium show, and went on an impressive run of big stages, the narrative changed. They hyped it endlessly and rightfully so and Mocked Wizkid with it, but that wave of success mainly benefited him and his immediate team. There was no wider push for the culture, no visible effort to uplift upcoming acts, and no strong effort to spotlight Afrobeats as a whole. It became an individual victory, not a shared one.

The same Wizkid they once tried to undermine turned inward and focused on the love from his home fans. He embraced the local support. That organic connection has remained strong, and interestingly, some of those very local fans have grown into superstars themselves even collaborating with him throughout 2025.

Now, suddenly, local charts “don’t matter.” Nigerian streams “don’t pay.” Artists are being advised to abandon the home front and chase international validation at all costs. The narrative keeps shifting depending on who benefits from it. Just caz they want to force Wizkid back into their stepping ladder.

It’s hard not to notice the pattern.

When international platforms were amplifying Afrobeats and Wizkid promoted it in interviews “Afrobeats to the world,” “There are African kids better than me” everyone applauded. But now that there’s less collective advocacy from their Choice of replacement and fewer shared opportunities, the value of the local scene is being questioned, Because Wizkid and his Fans Love each other.

We see the hypocrisy.
We see the manipulation.
And we see the game.

You can’t discredit local love when it doesn’t favor you, and glorify it when it does. The culture deserves consistency, not convenience
