Over 30 genes linked to pollinator attractiveness, protein content, or seed quality and adapted to extremely hot and dry US locations are identified. These genes will be tested and validated to improve commercial sunflower seeds within the next two years.
[PR] The HelEx project presents promising advances for more tolerant sunflowers.
During this general meeting, researchers presented the results achieved over the past year, highlighting progress in integrating genomic traits from wild Helianthus species

and gathering data to measure the impact of such sunflower species on biodiversity, agricultural landscape, and economy. The first results are starting, especially regarding the production and screening of climate-smart sunflowers in Spain, Romania and France.
🌻 Concluding the second annual HelEx meeting in Graz, Austria
Today marks the conclusion of the second annual HelEx meeting in Graz, Austria. Over the course of the past three days, we have engaged in great workshops, presentations, and a lot of discussions between partners.
In addition to these exchanges, we had the pleasure of visiting the Haidegg Research Center, to discover its expertise in crossbreeding tests for apple and stone fruit trees. We also discovered their agrivoltaics experiments and had insights into their winemaking processes.
Throughout the meeting, participants will engage in collaborative workshops and informal discussions. This event will also further strengthen collaboration across disciplines and geographies.
Thanks to all partners!
🌻 HelEx 2nd Annual Meeting
All HelEx partners are gathering for three days in Graz, Austria, to review the progress achieved over the past year, share insights, and define the path forward in developing sunflower varieties that are more resilient to extreme climatic conditions.
Bien qu'adapté à la sécheresse le tournesol nécessite encore des recherches🌻🔍

Discussions on the latest advances in ecology, bee and plant protection, bee products, genetics and breeding, physiology and behavior, and bee pathology were on the agenda. The HelEx project plays a key role in all of this.
The 71st annual meeting of the Association of German Bee Research Institutes was held in Münster, Germany, from 19 to 21 March. Salena Husband, from the @JKI_Bund, presented the initial results of the HelEx European research project on sunflowers.
The conference, organized by the beekeeping team at the North Rhine-Westphalia Chamber of Agriculture, was a crucial opportunity for scientists and beekeepers from Germany and neighboring countries to exchange ideas.
