Good to see this paper finally out: https://t.co/AtsZhzmmEC
Great baseline data on depth use of migrating salmon smolts in fjords! Key takeaway: smolts predominately migrate in the top 3 meters of the water column throughout the fjord.
@ProfColinBean How did these tags detect predation? Unclear from the abstract whether it was just temperature or whether they were also measuring some other thing.
I am unilaterally calling for a boycott on all jackets that do not have inside pockets. It is unacceptable for so-called "designers" to make coats with such callous disregard for the user experience. #bethechangeyouwanttoseeintheworld
Next step: get a fleet of these, triangulate the position of the fish in real-time, and follow it as far as we can! #trackingnotslacking#fishtelemetry (5/5)
NEW PAPER ALERT: ever wish your passive receiver network was a little more, well, active? Alberto Dallolio, Jo Arve Alfredsen, and crew at NTNU's Department of Cybernetics are on the case. https://t.co/NXAqchg80w (1/5)
Active receivers like these can help to extend receiver arrays into the wide open spaces otherwise unsuited for acoustic telemetry and help to answer questions about route choice, etc. (4/5)
@kwvollset Do you have any thoughts on why we don't see an effect of size on migration date within telemetry samples? Do you think that the effect plateaus at some size or do you think that the fish we tag are biased in some other way?
Further, as the # of sea lice in the fjord varies a lot through the season, this within-pop variation in migration timing has become much more important. We offer some hypotheses as to which ecological/physiological/evolutionary factors may be causing this multimodality. (5/5)
Fresh off the press! My first paper: https://t.co/DqjQTuHbJN
We used #acoustictelemetry to monitor the migration through the fjord of salmon smolts from four populations with similar hydrology, all located deep within the fjords of western Norway (1/5)

If the modes of migration timing in these rivers can be predicted from environmental data that is monitored in real time by @NVE, then it may be possible to provide real time estimates to eg aquaculture companies or research institutions on when these smolts are in the fjord(4/5)
