Έφυγε ο Στέφανος Μάνος.

Ένας από τους ελάχιστους πολιτικούς που τόλμησαν να πουν στους Έλληνες όχι όσα ήθελαν να ακούσουν, αλλά όσα πίστευε ότι έπρεπε να γνωρίζουν.

Υπήρξε συνεπής φιλελεύθερος, μεταρρυθμιστής πριν ακόμη οι μεταρρυθμίσεις γίνουν λέξη της μόδας και επίμονος υπερασπιστής της κοινής λογικής απέναντι στον λαϊκισμό. Μπορούσε κανείς να διαφωνεί μαζί του, ήταν όμως δύσκολο να αμφισβητήσει την ευθύτητα, την τεκμηρίωση και το θάρρος του.

Πολλές από τις ιδέες για τις οποίες λοιδορήθηκε αποδείχθηκαν, χρόνια αργότερα, αυτονόητες ή αναγκαίες. Ίσως αυτό να είναι και το μέτρο της πολιτικής του διαδρομής: έβλεπε συχνά νωρίτερα από τους άλλους όσα έρχονταν.

Τον αποχαιρετώ με βαθιά εκτίμηση και σεβασμό.
