Greenpeace Africa has unveiled a large sand art installation at Pirates Beach in Mombasa, calling on African leaders attending the United Nations Ocean Conference to strengthen efforts to protect the continent's oceans and coastal communities.

The artwork, created by volunteers and local residents, highlights growing concerns over illegal fishing, plastic pollution and climate change, which continue to threaten marine ecosystems and livelihoods.

Greenpeace is also urging African governments to champion the BBNJ Agreement, a global treaty aimed at expanding marine protected areas in international waters.

"Protecting the ocean means protecting people, especially local fishers who depend on these waters for their survival," Norwich Mandu, Greenpeace Africa volunteer said.

Happening now: activists gathered at Kilimo House to protest against Kenya allowing toxic pesticides in the country.

67 of Kenya's 141 registered pesticide ingredients are classified as highly hazardous. They're in our rivers. Our soil. And Our food.

State announced a ban which they are not enforcing or monitoring.

They are demanding action to stop feeding us poison.
