"One Leg on Earth" by 'Pemi Aguda is NOT playing with us this year.
This novel has everything.
Follow us. We cover African literature and we will not let you sleep peacefully.
Every great story has that moment where the writer almost gives up.
The blank pages, the rewrites, the “maybe this idea isn’t good enough” phase.
But sometimes, those false starts are exactly what lead to the best stories.

Before I travelled to Lagos with the @HelloAvocadoCo publishing assistant, my mother looked at me and said, “Your publishing company is becoming a big deal.”
And I carried that sentence with me the entire trip.
I am obsessed with books, and if you’ve ever seen the quality of production we insist on, you already know that obsession is not casual. We do not “manage” projects. We build them properly. This one stretched us in ways we did not see coming. We were on the road until midnight, moving things ourselves, carrying loads on my head without shame, dragging people and getting dragged in return, because sometimes that is what it takes to birth something properly in this country.
There were moments that tested our patience and moments that tested our stamina, but there is one thing that has never been in question: I build for the love of the game, and the game will always be bigger than the stress that comes with it.
