This morning, while the world was focused on the World Cup, we received the tragic news that Mr. Lenminsang, a Village Volunteer from Kolchung Village who was present at Songkong Village, Henglep Subdivision, Manipur, was reportedly killed by Security Forces while he was carrying out his regular duty.

A Village Volunteer’s responsibility is to protect and serve the community, especially in situations where people feel unsafe and vulnerable. It is deeply concerning that a person who was standing in the line of duty to safeguard civilians has reportedly lost his life.

We strongly condemn the reported killing of an innocent volunteer. The lives of civilians and community defenders must be protected, not treated as threats. Those responsible Security Forces must be held accountable through a fair and impartial investigation.

Why are the very forces responsible for protecting civilians failing to protect them and instead becoming a source of fear? The people deserve justice, security, and equal protection without bias.

Our deepest condolences go to the family and loved ones of Mr. Lenminsang. May his sacrifice never be forgotten.

Hundreds of #KukiZo women staged a sit-in protest in #Kangpokpi, #Manipur, on January 22, demanding justice for victims of #sexualviolence amid the ongoing ethnic conflict. The protest followed the death of a young #rapesurvivor who allegedly waited nearly three years for justice.

Organised by Kuki-Zo women of Sadar Hills, the demonstrators accused authorities of prolonged inaction despite #FIRs and central investigations.
They submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister seeking immediate intervention, citing multiple cases of sexual violence and killings since May 2023, and vowed to continue their protest until justice is delivered.
