To sell, or not to sell? 🌻 After Vincent and his brother Theo passed away, Jo van Gogh-Bonger became responsible for Vincent’s entire body of work. Hundreds of paintings, thousands of drawings and letters, and the task of bringing his art to the world.
For years, ‘Sunflowers’ was part of her daily life. When the National Gallery in London wanted to acquire it, Jo faced a difficult decision. In a letter, she wrote: ‘For two days I tried to harden my heart…’.

Letting the painting go was not just a sale to her, but a sacrifice for the sake of Vincent’s glory. Sometimes protecting a legacy means parting with something deeply personal. Would you have made the same choice?
