1/ The roots of the Israel-Iran conflict stretch back decades, but they've boiled over into open warfare in recent years. I'll break this down step by step, from the historical sparks to the latest strikes today, February 28, 2026. Let's start at the beginning.
Thread: Why Jamaican media houses like The Gleaner are bleeding out – and what the hell we gonna do about it
1/12
Today former Gleaner production workers hit the streets outside Central Avenue, demanding their full redundancy pay. About 45 people lost their jobs after the company outsourced printing and distribution to North Beech, a new joint venture with the Observer. Company says cashflow tight – Hurricane Melissa and heavy losses in Nov/Dec wiped them out. This one hurts deep.
When I ran a Design Agency in Jamaica, I had very little idea how much brands pay to do this work in North America. It’s interesting to learn and understand what agencies in NA charge and what’s included in the brand development beyond a Name + Identity for $60k CAD, for 3mnths.
@mcewan_janiel This context gives me more clarity into why the govt felt so strongly about proceeding with the $150m loan and so urgently. Makes total sense now.
There’s still a premium on people who can architect a product end-to-end and create software that people actually love, that’s structurally sound. The tools accelerate execution, but the product sense, and system-level thinking remain with the builder.
AI coding environments like Replit, V0, and Lovable aren’t the product, they’re accelerators. They widen access to development, but they don’t erase the need for people who can design, structure, and deliver full products. What they change is speed of development.
Even with democratized development, a large segment of clients will still outsource product creation. Most people don’t want to architect systems, or own the product lifecycle. Tools don’t change that; they only shift who can execute faster.
BIG NEWS FOR EVERY STUDENT WITH AN SLB LOAN!
The government just dropped the biggest SLB upgrade in years, and it’s happening RIGHT NOW. If you have an SLB loan or know someone who does, read this thread to the end. Your life is about to get easier.
Most sales compensation models are misaligned. They reward the signature, not what comes after, so we rebuilt it.
Starting in 2026, @Shopify's sales compensation will be tied to one thing: long-term merchant success. It’s a bet on merchants and our team.
A news network in Canada is interested in interviewing Canadian residents who are currently in Jamaica, about Hurricane Melissa. The interview would be today. DM.
My issue with AI app builders like Bolt: one small slip snowballs, infects other files, and rollback launches you back way before the problem.
How are people solving this?
