Spain being more progressive than the nations it conquered. The countries you have colonised are stuck with the values you have left them hundreds of years ago.
I think the problem with the debate is that there seems to be a lack of understanding of what Rhythm & Blues actually is.
If anything Beyonce is in the R&B Mount Rushmore solely because she forces people to unlearn the limitations that have made R&B so disrespected in the critics community.
You can't listen to Plastic Off The Sofa, Cozy or Virgos Groove and tell me those aren't R&B songs but they're also dance records because RHYTHM & BLUES is at the core of so many genres.
If Wendy Williams Show was still on air.
So, as you’ve known by now, the world has lost the legendary Clive Davis, who passed away due to age-related illness at 94.
*Audience: Awww*
He was reportedly at his home surrounded by his family, and that’s all I know. But we’ll be following this story.
For those who don’t know who this man is, he’s responsible for launching the careers of legendary artists such as Whitney Houston, whom he discovered at 19, Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys, and so on.
*Audience claps*
He was the founder of Arista Records and J Records and, at one point, the president of Columbia Records in the late 60s and early 70s. So, he was very well established.
Good morning, Suzanne. You’re looking very Brokeback Mountain this morning. *dunks tea bag in cup*
*Audience & Suzanne: 🤣🤣🤣
Now, some years ago, I had the opportunity to speak to Clive right here on the purple couch, and we spoke about everything, including his decision to still move forward with his annual Pre-Grammy Party just hours after Whitney Houston died at the same Beverly Hilton Hotel with her body still lying four floors up. Here’s what he had to say. *plays flashback*
*Audience chatter* 😮😮😮
I know! I said the same thing.
*Audience claps*
Anyway, Clive, wherever your soul has gone, I’m sure it’ll be looking up at us to see how your legacy lives on. Mhmm.
*Audience claps*
Very malicious rumour to start about someone who has been vocal about not wanting children and the discomfort that comes with people imposing their ideas of fertility, womanhood and parenthood on her. Sies.
A Double Betrayal in Prison.
When Nkoli was arrested in 1984 as part of the Delmas 22, he faced a bizarre double isolation:
1. From his Comrades: Inside Pretoria Central Prison, some of his fellow high-profile anti-apartheid trialists initially refused to sit at the same table or eat with him when they discovered his sexuality, fearing it would "taint" the liberation struggle in the eyes of conservative South Africans. Nkoli stood his ground, eventually winning them over and fundamentally reshaping the ANC's stance on human rights.
2. From the Gay Community: The Gay Association of South Africa (GASA), which was overwhelmingly white and conservative, completely abandoned Nkoli during his trial. They claimed they were an "apolitical" organization and refused to support a Black anti-apartheid prisoner.
This betrayal is exactly what drove Nkoli to form GLOW (Gay and Lesbian Organisation of the Witwatersrand) the moment he was acquitted in 1988.
To see the diaspora claim we have white people to thank for this legislation is insane because same-sex relationships were criminalised under apartheid & punishable by up to seven years in prison under the Immorality Act.
Japan is set to roll out nationwide LGBTQIA+ education programs in schools, universities, and workplaces.
The goal is for more people in Japan to understand sexual orientation and gender identity outside of cisgender, heterosexual norms.
I respect people who can wake up and within 30 minutes get up, have breakfast, shower, and get ready for work. I need 30 minutes just to figure out where I am and who I am.
