@Nerdyneko21@USAOWTC And for educated secular parents who like to express their ideas and discontent but want to keep their daughter safe. I don't think until I have children I could hope to know what I would decide.
@Nerdyneko21@USAOWTC It was very unselfish of her to give up her last lifeline to her son so that they could be together in the underworld. A very maternal sacrifice.
@jamesha97538348 @USAOWTC Same. I have read a lot of Greek stories and Achilles is always portrayed as almost inhuman because of his invulnerability and strength. But this novel and the way its narrated humanizes him.
@HinkleTiffani @USAOWTC I think you are right about how everyone has a definition of gender but I believe most of them to be based on society's ideas, most people I know haven't thought about their "beliefs" on what gender is.
@imthinkingkinda@USAOWTC Yes, but will all the potential in VR to replace real life experiences have a negative impact? Will it replace actual human interaction? How does the development of an amazing, partially solitary activity not decrease human interaction?
@jamesha97538348 @USAOWTC This is true even today. Until you get out of your area of comfort it is easy to use the ideas around you no matter how cruel. This makes me think of Kant's enlightenment and how people adopt the ideas around them.
@dan_jones1997@USAOWTC I think it is interesting that the character is in an interracial relationship and then goes back to a time where slavery is in full swing and she can't even interact will white people without being in danger.
@un_bayleefable@USAOWTC Yes, how odd that so much colonization was done in the name of "spreading Christianity". Just another grand narrative written by the "winners"
@PhlatAdverb @USAOWTC I think science usually argues that since God is omniscient and omnipotent and he created all things that evolution would be unnecessary. Its kinda nice to see Darwin attribute evolution to God and his power.
@Nerdyneko21@USAOWTC Yes, since labor became the commodity instead of the food you grow, you can't just live off that food, you have to work in a factory, get paid a small amount for what you made, and then turn around and spend it to live.
@brandon13832118@USAOWTC Yes, romantic poetry shows how important nature is by giving it the importance it deserves. It gives power to things like caterpillars and mice.
@ThaisUSAO@USAOWTC I think both emotion and reason were necessary for Victor to create the monster but if only he would have had the emotional connect or the reasoning to follow through and not abandon his creation.
@jamesha97538348 @USAOWTC And yet, even if we go through the exact experiences as others, our perceptions are always different so is it impossible to truly understand what that person is going through.
@KadieMclemore@USAOWTC This is so true. Having worked with children for years it amazes and makes me so happy to see that stigmas have not affected them yet. And its not just race but also disability or any difference.
@elreydelsol2 Yes. He talks about how it is easier to just go with what everyone else is doing for fear of the unknown and society reinforced this notion then as it still does today. That is why enlightenment is so hard to achieve.
@Nerdyneko21@USAOWTC I think the analogy of putting on masks for different situations is accurate but masks imply a falseness that I'm not sure the way we change our language in different situations does.
