Further, it will have students ill equipped to deal with how that history fits into their identities and how those identities intersect with and through history to current policies
Not only does this reiterate the need for media literacy but for BIPOC continually having to educate and be inundated with racial micro aggressions it creates constant racial battle fatigue.
It also brings up another issue: blackface vs blackphising. Blackface is more of what is happening in this context because she is painting herself a different color etc.
Black phishing is derived from cat phishing in that someone presents themselves online as someone who IS Black &/or assumes traits and identities associated with the Black community. People often believe this identity until proven to not be true like in the case of Rachel Dolezal
I think people are confused as to what constitutes blackface vs black phishing. Black face is more of what is happening in this context because she is painting herself to be a different color etc.
I donโt think this will have any affect on how the information is shared. However, I think in this instance social media has played a part in explaining what affirmative action actually encompasses besides race.
Affirmative Action has been monumental in diversifying colleges and universities. And while this decision was struck down it does nothing to address legacy admissions which is overwhelmingly white. The decision to overturn this will have implications that last decades.
Whether that is through eminent domain, gentrification, and so on BIPOC people have been forced to relinquish what is rightfully theirs and/or be forcefully removed throughout history.
While on surface level this may not appear to be directly about race but like many BIPOC before this is another case of gentrification at best. This is a repetitive process of people trying to take land that rightfully belongs to BIPOC people through any means necessary.
#writersstrike is another Millennial trauma I hoped wouldnโt circle back around like every other trauma weโve been through. But I support every damn minute!
