ADT, Ring, SimpliSafe, and others store activity logs on their servers. Employees can access footage and sensor data. Law enforcement requests it regularly.

One ADT technician accessed 220 customers' camera feeds over 9,600 times before anyone noticed. A single insider at a single vendor. Ring has given police access to footage without user consent in emergency circumstances. Local systems like Frigate or Home Assistant keep footage on your own hardware without cloud upload, which removes the employee-access threat entirely and forces a warrant for any external access.
