I was 16 when my father found out I lost my virginity. After a good ol’ ass whoopin, he took me to our LDS church for me to confess to our adult male bishop of my ‘sin’. There I was, in a small rectangular room sitting in a chair, directly across from this adult male bishop, to discuss me, a 16 year old girl, having relations with my 16 year old boyfriend of almost a year at the time. A picture of Jesus hung on the wall directly above him. All three of them with their eyes on me.
As soon as my father left the room I vehemently mumbled to the bishop, ‘I’m not talking about this.’ Surprisingly, the bishop just nodded his head and said ‘you’re right, we aren’t.’ Instead, he asked if I was safe, handed me a list of support numbers, and shifted the conversation to my classes and hobbies, what I liked most, what made me happy. He told me to focus on those and I’ll be alright. Then he said something I’ll never forget:
At a Trump rally in Youngstown, OH, a woman in a “Release the Epstein Files” shirt interrupted the speech. A supporter punched her in the face, grabbed her hair, and slammed her toward the ground. Cops dragged her out while the assailant stayed and high-fived the crowd.
Trump called her a “paid protester,” “scum,” and a “fat guy” who needs to go on a diet.
Demanding accountability for pedophiles gets you assaulted at a Trump event. The files still aren’t fully released.
The Zucchetto started being used by Catholics in the 13th century.
The Kippah was codified in the 16th century.
The Zucchetto was used originally to keep cardinals heads warm because it was cold. Not everything is a conspiracy.

This is a reminder that ableism can lead to suicide. The societal messaging that disabled people get telling us that we're less than have a really, REALLY deep impact on us. He was also one of the first prominent actors to actually have a physical disability. RIP RJ.
From a stage in Vegas, James Hetfield boldly announces that unlike artists like Hayley Williams, Rage Against the Machine, Macklemore, Dave Matthews, U2, Olivia Rodrigo, @Metallica stands for nothing and is only there to entertain ageing stockbrokers, dentists, and bank managers.
Not one great album here.
1995 was a weirdly bad year for music. The post-grunge explosion had faded, and 2nd wave emo and post-rock were about to emerge but hadn't yet, along with bands like Modest Mouse.
The best records that year were probably "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx," "Wowee Zowee," "To Bring You My Love," "Ghost of Tom Joad," Garden Variety's "Knocking the Skill Level," and the first Sparklehorse album (which I had forgotten came out in '95).
