Retired LAPD officer Michael Douglas Brambles, who was convicted of a series of armed robberies and sexual assaults in 1996, has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from a nearly 32-year-old Ventura County kidnapping and robbery case.
Brambles was sentenced to 102 years in state prison following his prior conviction but was released in 2020 under a 2018 California law that allows inmates who are at least 60 years old and have served at least 25 consecutive years to seek elder parole.
One of Brambles’ alleged victims, identified as SW, said she was shocked to learn that her attacker had been released from prison six years ago. She has since been aiding investigators as they reopen the case against Brambles.
“The justice that I and his other victims deserved was denied when he was only required to serve a fraction of the sentence he earned,” SW said at a press conference in August.
