Cheryl Reeve on what they identified in scouting to see Olivia Miles as one of the two players that the Lynx identified having a “generational skill”
“What I said on draft night is that there were two players that had generational skills, I would now classify her(Miles) as a generational talent… I think it’s really easy to identify great passing because there’s not a lot of players that are great at it so instinctually so. And then with Azzi(Fudd) the quick release her actions and scoring the basketball, you know, incredibly valuable… I think in the scouting process when you can repeat something over and over and over again and has been doing so in Livs case for a long time, it’s just a matter of can you figure out the pro game in terms of pace and physicality and all the stuff that goes with it, and that’s the part you don’t know… we thought for sure she’d be a really good back up point guard(laughing)”
This the quintessential story of how sports reflects the state of the world. Thousands of fans have waited for Game 3 their whole lives and now they’re priced out of entering the game and can’t even celebrate outside because one billionaire gets to attend the game for free.
Skylar Diggins on the Sky's struggles, via @ChiStateOfMind_:
"It's disappointing... The games ain't going to slow down, the teams are going to keep getting better. So we gotta figure out how we're going to turn this corner... but it's been an extremely frustrating experience."
Cheryl Reeve on how she coach’s Olivia Miles to make reads
“I don’t coach, a lot of times she’ll say “what do you want me to look for” and I say “whatever your instincts tell you” I don’t coach her passing at all. I try to stay out of the way of that, we try to play call to feature some of things we know she is going to find. She just has an incredible incredible gift…”
Cheryl Reeve on if she considered fouling up three to close the game
“This is where I throw the team under the bus, all five players on the floor knew we were fouling and we didn’t get it in. They didn’t get it done, and that’s okay because she missed, had she made it, that would have been tough to swallow going to overtime. Big time learning lesson”
Raven Johnson is just a pro, man. Her stats may not blow you away, but her overall impact on the game in totality is absolutely nuts. She manages games well, understands when to attack on the offensive end, and she’s so steady defensively.
