The ʿAsʿus family was about to sit down for dinner when they heard gunfire from the street. Everyone rushed to take cover. Two-year-old Layla was sitting in her mother’s lap when a bullet struck her in the head. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The shooters were Israeli soldiers who had were carrying out a raid in a neighboring home in the village of Muthallath a-Shuhada in Jenin District, on 25 January 2025.

Layla is one of 54 children and teens killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank in 2025. Our new report, Unshielded Childhood, released this week, tells their stories and the circumstances that led to each of their deaths.

Since October 2023, Israel has killed 241 children and teenagers in the West Bank, the highest number of Palestinian minors killed there since the territory was occupied in 1967. This is the result of an Israeli policy that enables and backs the killing of Palestinians, without anyone being held to account.

An Israeli drone targeted a 12 year old girl THREE times today in Nabatieh. She and her father were on a motorcycle when they were first struck. They both survived, but the drone hit again, killing her father. As the wounded child fled, the drone struck a third time.

The girl survived, but is seriously injured and is being treated in hospital.

@NadaOHomsi and I interviewed one of the survivors of a quadruple-tap Israeli attack on rescuers that killed four on Wednesday. Here is Gaby Zalghout’s account, who was among the first to arrive to the scene.

A first ambulance was dispatched to rescue civilians in Mayfoun. Israel struck them as paramedics were pulling out a body. A SECOND strike hit after another ambulance arrived.

Gaby, who was injured, then tried to evacuate the wounded, driving away from the scene under continued Israeli artillery fire. As a third team arrived, Israel struck a THIRD TIME.

Four paramedics were killed.

Israel has not provided any justification for the strikes targeting them.

Israel carried out a “triple tap,” killing three medical workers and wounding six, outside of Nabatieh today.

Paramedics were trying to rescue wounded from an airstrike, when they were struck. Another ambulance came to rescue the medical workers and was struck. A third rescue attempt was made, and that ambulance was struck too. A paramedic remains missing.

Israel has killed over 90 healthcare workers in Lebanon in about six weeks.
