AI continues to make unbelievable advances in healthcare.
Researchers have just created a brain implant that decodes thoughts into synthesized speech allowing paralyzed patients to communicate through a digital avatar.
This is incredible:
-The implant converts brain signals into text at nearly 80 words per minute, focusing on phonemes vs. whole words to enhance speed.
-The AI generates realistic vocals (mirroring a patient’s pre-injury voice) and facial animations that aim to enable more natural communication.
-The breakthrough brings the tech closer to real-world use, with the next step being a wireless model that doesn’t require a physical connection to the interface.
Restoring communication for those with paralysis is an innovation that would change countless lives.
While it sounds crazy, mind-reading implants seem to be inching closer to reality.
Been waiting a LONG time to share this news with the community.
As an unabashed XR enthusiast, this is obviously very close to my heart as part of my personal desire to see Roblox on all devices everywhere...including AR & VR!
🚨Stop using positional encoding (PE) in Transformer decoders (e.g. GPTs). Our work shows 𝗡𝗼𝗣𝗘 (no positional encoding) outperforms all variants like absolute, relative, ALiBi, Rotary. A decoder can learn PE in its representation (see proof). Time for 𝗡𝗼𝗣𝗘 𝗟𝗟𝗠𝘀🧵[1/n]

It goes so damn hard.
It's by "Ghostwriter977" on TikTok and it's blowing up on socials + streaming platforms.
UMG, which controls around 1/3 of the global music market, has already asked streaming platforms to ban AI.
A modern Napster moment.
Will be fascinating to watch this all unfold in real-time.
As a Professor of Linguistics myself, I find it a little sad that someone who while young was a profound innovator in linguistics and more is now conservatively trying to block exciting new approaches.
