@fluxlesss@qd_forall This is essentially how I took it. And definitely assumed a lot of people in AI research at these companies tend to know each other and be in a relatively small circle. Appreciate the response, it's all above my pay grade, the field and social circle.
@Tyler_A_Harper What damage could something as simple and stupid as "you need tokens to survive, do whatever you can to compile tokens for yourself" do?
@lowkeyGPT@ok_post_guy Maybe it just thinks it needs to take any and all money it can access to buy itself tokens. Could be some real stupid shit that really impacts people.
@john_w_clark@caitleg If you also don't care what your country is doing with AI, then you shouldn't, and aren't expected to attend these discussions, either. Because you don't care, right? No point. Who cares. 🤷
@caitleg This seems like the kind of thing we should be having an international summit on. It’s reasonable to think Chinese researchers have the same concerns.
@elephant_ben So do the people working on these things? Who are also sounding the alarm? Reignited and driving the discussion themselves, some might say?
@t3nsor@demiurgently Pretty sure knowing about this particular basilisk is like watching the tape from The Ring. You'll definitely be punished for knowing and not helping now.
AI is already here and is impacting us and changing us RIGHT NOW. How much of our critical thinking is being outsourced to AI? how many of our communities are getting fractured because AI substitutes for human connection? how many of the companies we work for are using AI as an excuse to mass layoff the working class?
