@MrJamesMay There’s a reason they were made for so long and sold twice as many as the ‘e’….the public loved them, particularly in the USA. The last of the line 6 litre V12s are the best (4L AJ16 a close second), sublime to drive. It’s a brilliant car.
@LUDENClassics You’re doing pretty well. I get about 12 from my Shad 2 around town and if not sparing the horses. Maybe 15-17 on A roads and motorway. What’s the app you’re using to keep track of MPG?
@OneHaleyStar@watergypsi It was a Ghia actually…..lots of cars and 30 years ago…..but as you say it’s the same thing really without the go faster stripes. Even the wheels are the same.
@watergypsi You may well be correct….this was nearly 30 years ago so memory is dimmed. But it sure was a 3 litre…1978 mk3. Looking closely there appears to be a little ghia emblem on the side. I also had a TVR engined version….that was fun. And a 2.8i, the best of the lot
@PaulCowland_ XC70 T6….a rare beast and perfect in the British winter. Bit juicy on the fuel around town but it saves the classics tucked up whilst salt is spread about. Built like a challenger tank, brilliant car.
@vee8design@LUDENClassics@flyingspares It made a huge difference to my Shad 2…to preserve ride quality I was advised by RR specialist to keep the springs standard but uprate bilstein shocks and the front and rear rollbars. So if your springs are in good order that’s something to consider, makes it cheaper too.
@harrym_vids@Ferdinand641 Worth a go before major surgery as the heads don’t need to come off to do it…I had this done on my shad 2 although it was using an awful lot less oil than the artic Rolls….I assume you’ll be using the new rubber type seals not the old asbestos rope waxed affairs. Good luck.
@GPOnyx Special car as a 6 litre (so much better than 5.3s)….they don’t like standing too much…..a quality mop of the paint would not be a bad idea…..how come you don’t use it at all?
@WonPeople This is why I run a Shadow. I watched this in period and, about 20 years later bought one.
But….there is nothing more expensive than a cheap Rolls-Royce…he neglected to say 😉 but that’s forgivable. He was a lovely chap.
@ListerLawrence I was one of the insurers in the early WWise days and met him a number of times. It was hard to talk business as all I really wanted to do was talk classic cars with him! True professional and nice chap. Far too young. Terribly sad for the family.
@CandSCmagazine I was there in 1991 Silverstone, i think Fangio II won the XJR-15 race….also recall more fully watching Senna blat past, then hitching a ride on Mansells Williams..right in front of me..thought it was normal until i saw the pic on the front page of every newspaper the next day!
