Indeed. In this context saying hope, wisdom, and action would be the cure.
When we have hope we can still find that version of us we thought was lost.
We show wisdom when we realize our brains and bodies can do more than it once could, it’s just different things.
Watching a relationship change slowly is beautiful like the slow blooming of a flower. If it’s not in the right direction take action.
Embrace your grief. Acknowledge it. But remember that’s only half of the story and not the end of it.
@oelma__ I “won” a free inflatable hot tub. It just showed up in the mail. One of those scams where you get something in the mail and then a fake review is made with your name. Very confused but best scam I ever won.
Advice from someone who thinks, “wtf am I even doing? This is crazy,” almost every day.
A few things that keep me moving anyway:
1) Talk your goals into existence with anyone who will listen.
2) Journal your progress. Go back and remind yourself how many steps you’ve already taken.
3) Take risks. Sometimes you’ll fail. Pick yourself back up, learn something, and redirect.
4) Keep people close who get excited when they see what lights you up. On the days you question yourself, their faith in you helps you find your own again.
5) Your goal might sound insane. The mountain you have to climb might look insane. That’s fine. Be a little insane too.
That still assumes abortion is equivalent to murdering a separate person.
For the sake of argument, let’s say a fetus has an interest the government can protect. The autonomy question still doesn’t disappear.
The broader question is whether protecting one life gives the government the authority to require another person to use their body to sustain it.
That is different from prohibiting one individual from shooting someone else or harming someone by driving drunk.
Those laws restrict what a person can do to someone else. Abortion restrictions require a pregnancy to continue by limiting the medical choices available to the person whose own body is sustaining it.
That distinction is why bodily autonomy is part of this conversation.
Pro-life/pro-choice debate aside, you are circling the point that’s being made. You believe the government is justified in overriding someone’s bodily autonomy when it believes doing so protects another life.
That’s what I believe is being examined in the original post. During COVID, many people rejected government restrictions intended to protect other people because they believed their personal autonomy should take precedence.
Pregnancy is obviously different, and the moral questions are much more complicated.
The underlying question that remains is: When does the government have the right to override bodily autonomy in the name of protecting someone else, and are we applying that principle consistently?
That’s the conversation I’m talking about. Not whether a mask and an abortion are the same thing.
I have experienced this double standard for sure. It was a sharp reminder that women who talk openly about sexuality, desire, curiosity, exploration, etc. with men (not all, to be fair) it seems to translate as a talk about sexuality, desire, curiosity, and exploration that will somehow include them. In my case when the realization that the discussion was not an invitation he was quite mad. Fragile ego.
