👤 PHARRELL & NIGO
BILLIONAIRE BOYS CLUB (BBC)
Artists/producer Pharrell collaborated with Bape founder and owner Nigo for a brand called “billionaire boys club” in 2003.
With influences of both hiphop and Japanese streetwear. With the iconic name it was chosen to be associated with wealth, creativity and individuality.
The brand first look was in Pharrell iconic “frontin” video.
With the brand launching its own store in 2005. A place where skaters, hiphop heads and fashion forwards individuals would find themselves at waiting in line.
Billionaire boys Club created a cult like following that even precedes today even with the brands prime being 2003-2009. You can still find the grail pieces being sold for hundreds of dollars on grail, Depop, and EBay.
Like the iconic diamond dollar sign hoodie or the popular ice cream sneakers.
👤 NIGO
Founder/ Creator of bathing ape aka Bape.
Originally born In Japan, he studied fashion at Bunka Fashion college in Tokyo. Largely inspired by hip-Hip/ Rap culture in America. Becoming a prominent figure in the globalization of streetwear.
Probably one of the coolest figures in streetwear and hiphop adjacent circles. He developed a strong relationship with producer/Artist Pharrell Williams much help bring the brand from a niche esque brand to a broader perspective as Pharrell basically became the brand ambassador as anytime you saw him 02-05 he was seen sporting bape in exclusive pieces given to him directly from Nigo.
In 2012 Nigo sold bape to a fashion conglomerate called the I.T group, which he later decided to focus on human made a collab brand with Pharrell. He is currently creative director of Kenzo another Japanese streetwear brand)
Helping bridge the gap in Japanese and American street wear, he definitely had an undeniable impact in fashion.
👤 KANYE WEST (09-11)
💿 MBDTF ERA
This was after Kanye pink polo era and streetwear bape era.
This was Kanye bringing us into his new existence and really cementing himself as a fashion icon.
Also around the time he had an APC collab
(Atelier de Production et de Création) a French fashion house.
This was one of the his many high fashion brand collabs next to the Louie sneaker etc
This was also a time where he was testing the Yeezys/ Nike collab. I’d say this is Kanye’s best era of dressing since the clothes and the outfits here still look fresh till this day and can be worn and wouldn’t look outdated at all.
FT Virgil.
SoundCloud Sundays
👤 Unitus
💿 Bad On Ya
Going thru some SoundCloud tunes and ran into this artist by the name of Unitus.
Great replay value and catchy hooks.
On the come up on the underground scene with high upside.
One of personal favorite finds this week, kept it on replay.
👤 WU WEAR
👤 WU TANG / POWER (WU TANG MEMBER)
Wu tang member Oliver “power” Grant has recently passed this week. RIP.
He was the founder of the clothing line Wu Wear. He was also the groups first major investor. He was a strategic partner who funded a lot of the albums before the group signed a deal.
Behind the scenes was his play. Well he also stumbled upon Gold as Wu Wear was the first rapper owned brand, which would later pave the way for baby phat, Phat farm, Sean Jean, Roca- wear.
Power was a smart guy, he knew to leverage the brands popularity and influence into a lifestyle esque streetwear brand before the term streetwear was even invented.
With logo heavy pieces it also served as a unique promotional tool for the overall groups brand expanding world wide it became bigger the merch.
Oliver “power” grant also was a character in belly by the name of knowledge who was seen on a jail phone arguing with DMX.
👤 FAKE MINK
👤 ESDEEKID
Walking the runway/ sitting in the audience at GUCCI FW26 by Denma
2 underground artist gaining traction daily. Is it safe to say the underground is now mainstream?
With Fake mink having ties to Drake and Frank ocean
And ESDEEKID having an actual movie star do a feature for one of his songs.
It seems internet artists have blended the world of underground and mainstream.
A strong enough fanbase will have you walking for Gucci or having frank ocean post your song on Instagram.
While still being able to go to the grocery store and do normal people things.
👤 GUCCI (2026)”
👤 CREATIVE DIRECTOR - DENMA
Known as Denma but real name is Demna Gvasalia, founded the brand known as Vetements in 2014 with his brother, was known for its rebellious luxury street wear esque aesthetic.
In 2015 he became the Creative director for balenciaga and lead the way for the rebranding of balenciaga and the way it’s looked from 2015-2025.
Now as head of Gucci as of July 2025. This is first collection for the fashion powerhouse .
In my opinion the pieces aren’t bad, very Tom Ford gucci influenced not bad but no defining pieces that stand out.
I personally give it a 6/10
These are some of my favorite pieces from the show.
👤 VIRGIL ABLOH
“PYREX VISION” (2012)
Worn mostly by rappers A$AP Rocky and A$AP mob.
Pyrex was Virgil’s experiment brand.
Where he would screen print the word “Pyrex” on high end Ralph Lauren shirts and shorts and resell it.
After taking the hype train by storm Virgil eventually chose to pursue off-white which is a reference to Cocaine just as Pyrex is a reference to cooking cocaine and making crack.
Pyrex was a tumblr staple in 2012 with the bold fonts on the crotch area of the basketball shorts, definitely stood out at the time.
You can still find pieces on grailed, EBay and time to time Depop. Where resellers are listing them at OFF- White prices after Virgil’s untimely unfortunate passing in 2021 at the age of 41.
