Gigs wot I went and seen in 2024
1. Bat Sabbath at Camden Underworld on February 2nd
Watched this one mostly from the wings as it was already packed by the time we got there but I did manage to get into the crowd for Pnuemonia Hawk. Always crazy, this time no exception.
First team to be relegated after trying to join a breakaway European league for the clubs rich enough to consider themselves an elite… you’ll never sing that.
That’s it for 2024, 14 is actually a pretty poor haul for me. Hoping for lots more in 2025 (already got 10 booked). My adventures with King Gizzard continue with a three-dayer in Athens at Lycabettus Theatre which, from the pictures, looks unreal. Fun fun fun!
13. Red Fang at Camden Underworld on August 14th
Quietly been one of my favourite bands for a long time and not been to see them live as much as I would have liked. I was anticipating something special and got it, a reminder to make the effort to see them as often as possible.
14. Bravado at Tropic, Ruislip on October 19th
Bravado are a Rush tribute act and man do they really get close to the real thing. Super talented musicians and it’s great to be able to see some of those songs live now that I’ll never get the chance to see Rush.
12. The Dillinger Escape Plan at 013 Poppodium, Tilburg on August 8th
One of my favourite bands live and on record reforming to play their legendary first album after not having played a gig for 7 years and it was… okay.
Truth be told, TDEP need Greg like fish need water.
11. Soft Play at Rough Trade East on July 21st
Was really inspired by the story of these guys going through bad personal stuff and then re-finding each other which helped them both start to heal. Seen them a few times over the years and they’re still as beautifully raw as ever.
9. Avenged Sevenfold at Download Festival on June 16th
Great in places but I have my gripes. Save Me and ALPOH were awesome however poor sound and technical issues put a bit of a dampener on things. Plus, ending on Cosmic when the GOD suite was right there was not the move imo.
10. Green Day at Wembley Stadium on June 29th
Green Day are just one of those always good live bands. They played American Idiot in full which meant I got to hear some songs I hadn’t heard live before. Homecoming was a highlight, that one was 20 years in the waiting for me.
8. Fall Out Boy at Download Festival on June 15th
I worked the festival this year and one of my shifts occurred during FOB so could only really watch them from afar. Honestly I can’t remember what I thought about them so lets just assume they were good.

7. Queens Of The Stone Age at Download Festival on June 14th
I count days at festivals as gigs so yeah. A lot of people were critical of Queens for this set but I really enjoyed myself. As always, Josh a monster on the guitar which for me is what it’s really all about with them.
6. Deap Vally at EartH, Hackney on June 8th
It had been way too long since seeing DV and a massive shame that this was seemingly going to be the last time. Felt like a massive victory lap for the band who sounded great and were very engaging.
5. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard at Wide Awake, Brockwell Park on May 25th
Wide Awake on the whole was really cool, didn’t know many of the acts but everyone we checked out was great! Gizzard here proving their headline credentials with a captivating last set of the day.
4. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard at AFAS Live, Amsterdam on May 23rd
I feel like the Hamburg set stuck in the band’s craw because they played about the heaviest set they possibly could have. Gizz at their finest from start to finish, 10/10.
3. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard at Stadtpark Open Air, Hamburg on May 22nd
15th time seeing Gizz and this will probably rank as the worst. Between torrential rain, terrible sound and a chatty crowd, not really much the band could do to offset the bad hand they’d been dealt.
2. Knocked Loose at Kentish Town Forum on March 10th
Not a band whose music I knew all that well at the time but expected heavy and got it. Barnstormer after barnstormer. Looking forward to seeing them again this year on the back of their new album.
