๐ A POSITIVE STEP FORWARD FOR HOMELESSNESS IN GLASGOW!
A sincere thank you to Councillor @Bell45, Leader of @GlasgowCC City Council for taking the time to meet with us and listen to our concerns.
We came away feeling much more positive and encouraged by his apparent commitment to working with Homeless Project Scotland to tackle homelessness across our city.
We want to work together, find solutions and make a real difference to peopleโs lives.
We are hopeful this marks the beginning of positive change for Glasgowโs homeless community.
Thank you, Councilor Bell for listening. Actions will now speak louder than words.
We will keep everyone updated as discussions progress. ๐

๐ In this video, Colin shares how Homeless Project Scotland began in 2019 with a backpack, a flask of soup, some sandwiches and a simple decision to help.
He recalls heading onto Glasgowโs streets with his sister and a friend. As they were leaving, one man tapped his shoulder and asked: โWould you be back?โ That question stayed with him, and they returned.
๐ฅฃ When COVID arrived, the need for support continued. Colin describes how that small beginning grew into an operation delivering more than a million hot meals across the country within 12 months.
With donations and community support, an unexpected journey became the charity we know today.
To everyone who has helped along the way, thank you. Your generosity has made you part of this story. ๐
๐๏ธ Chris shares a welcome update from Glassford Street everyone who needed our support tonight has a bed indoors, with nobody left sleeping outside.
He also thanks @Bell45 and @GlasgowCC Glasgow City Council for the improvements our team has noticed recently, including quicker responses to calls and more people accessing emergency accommodation.
๐ These changes make a difference to our volunteers and, most importantly, to people seeking help with nowhere to stay. We appreciate the work behind the scenes that is helping people get indoors.
There is still progress to make, and we hope this cooperation continues so that nights like this become something everyone can depend on. From all of us at @hp_scotland Homeless Project Scotland, thank you. ๐
What does this positive update mean to you? We would love to hear your reflections in the comments.
๐พ Meet Maeve, our shelter cat, and Sebastian, our Shelter Manager, with an invitation to join the Homeless Project Scotland volunteer team.
Behind every night at the shelter are people giving their time to welcome guests, wash clothes, answer phones, sort donations and keep the building clean and ready for those who need us.
๐งบ There is plenty of practical work to do, but taking a moment to sit beside someone and listen matters too. A kind welcome can make an unfamiliar place feel a little less daunting.
You do not need previous experience or all the answers. We will help you learn and support you along the way. Bring kindness, respect and a willingness to help, and we would love to hear from you. ๐
Maeve seems happy to welcome some new recruits, although we cannot promise she will waive everyoneโs references. ๐

A former SNP Housing Minister is attacking his party colleagues in Holyrood and Glasgow over Scotland's housing crisis.
As things stand the Scottish Government's on track to miss its 2032 housebuilding target by nearly a third.
Meanwhile Glasgow City Council is this year expected to spend ยฃ82m on hotels and B&Bs for the homeless. That's as it tries to fill a ยฃ110m funding gap over two years.
Alex Neil says funding should be moved from lower priorities - such as cycle lanes - to building houses. He's also calling for @hp_scotland's unauthorised night shelter to be allowed to stay open.
๐ Our soup kitchen feeds an average of 400 people a day, and collecting donated food is essential to making that possible.
In this video, Sebastian shares his frustration after our drivers returned from bringing food into the soup kitchen to find a parking fine on the charityโs van, issued by @GlasgowCC City Council.
๐ฅฃ Our volunteers travel across Glasgow to collect donations and bring them back so meals can reach people who need them. Sebastian asks for greater understanding of the practical work involved in keeping this service running.
He also questions this approach while our night shelter guests continue to be told by Glasgow City Council that no accommodation is available.
โ๏ธ If this concerns you, please consider writing to your local councillors and asking them to help find a workable parking arrangement for our food collections and deliveries.
How do you think Glasgow City Council should support charities making essential deliveries? Share your views in the comments.
โค๏ธ TONIGHT, EVERYONE IS INSIDE! NO PODS OUTSIDE! โค๏ธ
๐ We are delighted to share that tonight at Homeless Project Scotland we have no emergency sleeping pods outside our night shelter everyone we are supporting tonight is safely inside, warm and sheltered. โค๏ธ
This is what our incredible volunteers work tirelessly to achieve every single night. Nobody should have to sleep outside in the cold. ๐ฅถ
๐ BUT WE NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS! ๐
Our night shelter relies on ordinary people doing extraordinary things. You donโt need experience, just compassion, kindness and a willingness to help someone who needs it most.
๐ Could you be part of the team that helps keep people off Scotlandโs streets this winter?

๐ Everyone deserves dignity and a safe place to stay.
Kateโs account of being told to cover her body in bin bags while suffering from scabies in temporary accommodation is deeply distressing.
@hp_scotland Homeless Project Scotland is calling for urgent action to ensure Kate has safe, suitable accommodation and the care and support she needs. Her concerns must be properly investigated by @GCHSCP
People experiencing homelessness deserve compassion, respect and practical help.

๐ฌ๐ง A PROUD MOMENT FOR @hp_scotland Project Scotland! โค๏ธ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ
It was a real honour for Colin McInnes, Founder and CEO of Homeless Project Scotland, and Sebastian, our Night Shelter Manager, to have the opportunity to meet and chat with the UK @10DowningStreet@andyburnham of the United Kingdom.
During our conversation, the Prime Minister shared a message that really stood out to us:
โItโs not about numbers, itโs about people and empowering everyone in every postcode across the UK.โ
These words resonate deeply with the work we do every single day.
At Homeless Project Scotland, we donโt just see statistics. We see human beings. People with names, families, stories, struggles and hopes for a better future.
Every person deserves dignity, compassion, opportunity and, above all, somewhere safe to call home.
As a charity run entirely by volunteers, we know firsthand the difference that kindness, determination and genuine support can make to someoneโs life.
We hope this conversation helps keep homelessness firmly on the agenda at the highest levels of government.
Because whether someone lives in Glasgow, London or anywhere else in the United Kingdom, no one should be forgotten simply because they have no postcode to call their own. โค๏ธ

โ ๏ธ Content warning: CCTV footage showing racist abuse and physical violence.
This video shows a man being racially abused before he is attacked with a glass bottle. The victim suffered bleeding and a concussion and was taken to hospital.
Homeless Project Scotland condemns this racially motivated attack. Nobody should have to endure abuse or violence because of their race or background. Our thoughts are with the victim as he recovers. ๐
We stand firmly against racism and call for those responsible to be held accountable. Everyone who comes to us deserves to be treated with dignity and to feel safe.
Please keep comments respectful and considerate of the person affected. Messages of support for the victim are welcome.
๐ง๏ธ Tonight, CEO Colin McInnes speaks from outside our night shelter on Glassford Street, where 12 sleeping pods stand in pouring rain. He calls on Glasgow City Council's Health and Social Care Partnership to resolve the barriers to accommodation and get people indoors.
Colin also condemns a racist attack on a Black service user who was waiting to access our services. He reports that two men struck the victim with a glass bottle, leaving him unconscious and suffering a seizure. He was taken urgently to hospital by ambulance.
Nobody should face violence while waiting for help. Our thoughts are with the victim, and we hope he makes a full recovery. ๐
Homeless Project Scotland has zero tolerance for racism. We stand beside those targeted by hatred and call for those responsible for this attack to be held accountable.
These events underline our concerns for people left outside. Safe accommodation and protection from violence cannot wait.
Please join us in standing against racism. Messages of solidarity and support for the victim are welcome in the comments.
โบ Tonight, Sebastian reports that 16 sleeping pods are outside our night shelter. He reflects on a frustrating pattern: a night with few or no pods brings hope, only for numbers to rise again shortly afterwards.
We welcome every person being accommodated, but those improvements need to last. Repeatedly returning to 15 or 20 pods outside means people are still facing nights on the pavement.
โ๏ธ With winter approaching, Sebastian expresses his fear for those left outside as temperatures fall. A sleeping pod cannot replace a warm room, and waiting for conditions to worsen is not an acceptable response.
We urge @GlasgowCC City Council to build on the progress already shown and provide consistent access to appropriate accommodation. People need to know that help will be available whichever night they ask for it.
