This summer, our teams are preparing to deliver the biggest programme of work over the motorway network.
The construction schedule, which starts in June, will see three huge HS2 structures built over busy sections of the M42 and #M6 in the #WestMidlands.
In one operation, a twin box will be built above both carriageways of the #M42 near #Birmingham Business Park – allowing the railway to be constructed over the top. Additionally, two single-track viaducts will be extended over the M42/M6 Toll near Water Orton, and a twin-track viaduct will be installed over the M6 near Chelmsley Wood.

The Curzon 2 viaduct has successfully been launched over the Birmingham Cross City line.
This huge engineering feat was achieved during a weekend railway closure. Reaching 40 metres at its highest point, this viaduct is a landmark addition to the #Birmingham skyline.
By working within a pre-agreed closure window with @NetworkRailBHM, our teams were able to push the viaduct over the existing rail lines safely, handing the tracks back on time for the first trains on Monday morning.
Our latest YouTube video takes you through the weekend push, where the massive steel truss was slid into place using a precision jacking system.

Booth Industries has completed the first of 300 safety-critical cross-passage doors for HS2 at their new factory in Bolton, supporting 130+ jobs in the north-west.
The doors separate northbound and southbound tunnels and provide emergency access in the event of an incident — a vital part of keeping passengers safe.

📍 Washwood Heath is set for transformation.
In our latest video hear from Taylor Woodrow, Aureos Rail and the Mayor of the West Midlands @RichParkerLab on what the £856m contract to build HS2's train depot and control centre means for jobs, skills and regeneration in the area.

Civil engineering is in its busiest period. The immediate focus is completing that work as safely and efficiently as possible, before teams move on to installing track, signals and railway systems.
HS2 is being built to the right sequence, at the lowest reasonable cost — delivering the rail capacity Britain needs for generations to come. 🚄
HS2 is being reset.
We've announced an updated cost and construction schedule to complete the railway, using the same methodology that successfully delivered the Elizabeth Line.
With a four-year funding settlement secured, the programme has the stability to focus on improving productivity, enabling tighter cost control and ensuring construction work happens in the right order.👇🧵.
In West London, our Old Oak Common station is creating a development hotspot, including:
🏘️ 22,000+ new homes
🏢 693,000 sqm of commercial floorspace
💼 18,500+ jobs
All within just 1.5 miles of our new 14-platform superhub station.
#HS2 engineers have completed Curzon 2, the tallest bridge on the new high-speed network, and shortly we’ll be launching it over the Cross City railway line just outside #Birmingham city centre.
Curzon 2 is part of the Curzon approaches, a network of five viaducts forming the final mile into HS2's Curzon Street Station.
The 4,200 tonne bridge will reach its final position on 5th June creating a stunning new addition to the Birmingham skyline.🌉
For years, places like Washwood Heath were left behind.
Now we’re bringing investment, skilled jobs and opportunity back into the heart of the West Midlands.
More than 1,500 jobs. A historic industrial site brought back into use. And long-term growth for local communities. That’s the difference investment in our region can make.
We have awarded a contract to Taylor Woodrow Infrastructure Ltd and @aureos_group (TWA JV) to build the HS2’s🚄rolling stock depot and control centre on a 70-hectare brownfield site in Washwood Heath, Birmingham 👍.
The development is set to create around 1,000 long-term jobs👷♂️and 500 construction roles — transforming a disused site into a major new business and logistics hub.

When HS2 arrives, @BCFC's new 62,000-seat stadium will be one of the most connected in Europe – sitting right at the intersection of HS2 and local transport networks.
East Birmingham is being transformed, and #HS2 is at the heart of it. 🚅⚽
Last weekend, engineers at #HS2 successfully pushed the first section of the 650m long Duddeston Junction viaduct over two freight lines – with the freight line reopening earlier than expected.
Duddeston Junction viaduct is the longest of five viaducts forming the 'Curzon Approaches' – the one-mile stretch of railway that will carry high speed trains into #Birmingham Curzon Street Station.🚄
In our latest project update video 🎥, our Chief Executive Mark Wild reflects on the programme reset underway and what it means for the years ahead.
With a four-year funding settlement now in place, our focus is on:
✅ Finishing the civil engineering
✅ Preparing for the roll-out of HS2's complex railway systems
✅ Demonstrating consistent progress — safely, efficiently, and responsibly 🦺

This week we’d like to showcase some of the 30,000 people building #HS2. Across more than 350 sites, our workforce is making HS2 a reality — here's a recent snapshot from the Water Orton viaducts.
Nearly 80% of HS2's major structures are now complete or under construction. Behind every structure is a team of people building Britain's new high speed railway.👷♂️

#HS2 engineers are getting ready to start a major construction programme in Saltley, #Birmingham.🏗️
On 10th May, Saltley Viaduct will close ahead of a four-stage demolition programme. It will be replaced with a brand new structure — two metres taller and wider, to make way for high-speed trains to be built below and create more space for cyclists and pedestrians above.
