At my very not diverse school it was impossible to stand out in anyway. All that to say this is fascinating because I felt so isolated and is something I want to think about more but that’s all the time I have on Twitter again the end. 4/4

But realize there’s lots to unpack here other than music - ethnic n racial diversity of schools n what alliances r created,also belonging and where n who people feel safe being “weird” around. Felt normal in the context of cousins community (2/3)

@GraceHwangLynch @chowleen @estarLA It’s even different 4 Gen X in diff parts of Bay Area. My older cousin grew up in Fremont had this exp, learned about alt music from her! In Benicia my Asian friends were into RnB. I was the weirdo who ❤️ New Order (Depeche Mode mostly tho.) I feel like I missed out on something.

Once upon a time in another life in another place she was an opera singer and actress, after I was born she moved to the US to be with family n became an accountant until her retirement. She still sings with a group and performs around the Bay Area. Thats the tweets. 😭❤️❤️❤️ 2/2

My Popo passed away last Sunday. She lived a longer life than most of us could hope for. She moved to the US when I was born and lived with us and I spent all of my time with her. All my earliest memories. The naming of everything, in her voice. I miss her. ❤️
