We inaugurated Shabeely Resort, one of the flagship projects under the Dine for Generations initiative, which spans 385 hectares. Shabeely is not only a resort, but also a living expression of the rich heritage of the Somali Region, seamlessly blending modern architecture with ancient traditions. This eastern region project, among many others, marks a significant milestone in fulfilling our promise to make Ethiopia one of Africa’s top tourist destinations. The region’s abundant natural landscape, combined with the partnerships forged through Medemer’s endeavour, powerfully demonstrates that Ethiopia is not only a nation that dreams, but one that turns those dreams into reality.
For the goals set under Digital Ethiopia 2030 to be achieved, there are two fundamental enabling factors. The first is access to electricity. Access to electricity can be considered the lifeblood of digital technology. The technological gadgets we use require electricity. Therefore, we must expand access to electricity through all possible means. The second is internet connectivity. Many cities have already benefited from internet connectivity. However, in the next five years, this connectivity must be made fully accessible in all areas. By working with the belief that this is achievable, we must create equal opportunities for our citizens.
Re GERD - my advice to Egypt. Drop the political drama and engage with Ethiopia professionally on technical issues. I know from experience that Ethiopia cannot be bullied and the more you push the more immovable they become. It’s time to accept today’s reality!
In Calub, Somali Region, we inaugurate the first phase of the Ogaden Liquified Natural Gas Project, with an annual production capacity of 111 million liters. At the same time, we launch the second phase, which will add a capacity of 1.33 billion liters per year. Beyond liquified natural gas, this facility also contributes significantly to energy generation, with a production capacity of 1,000 megawatts.
Importantly, the plant is not just a gas facility. It serves as a cornerstone of our food sovereignty efforts by providing essential input for fertilizer production. It also supplies critical resources for our energy and crypto-mining initiatives. Without a doubt, all the mega projects we inaugurated today in the Somali Region, collectively valued at USD 10 billion including associated infrastructure, will be carried through to completion, as we have always been committed to finishing what we start.
As part of our ongoing dialogue with various sectors, we convened teachers from across the nation today to hear their concerns and gather their input for planning purposes.
