The passion behind the game. Indie devs treat the game more as a craft they want to make a masterpiece; the money is secondary. With many AAA studios, money is the primary focus, hence why games sometimes feel unfinished (and locked behind paywalls, etc).

The key is to love what you're building and never lose the vision for it becoming a masterpiece in every sense of the word.
