Learning is life and life is learning,..and if we can instil and empower youngsters to have a thirst for learning that is a win! Self motivation, ambition and resilience…no political party or policy can create that…but teachers can!
@calvinchen I am definitely more productive wfh, as no interruptions or social chat. There are disadvantages…no informal learning opportunities from bouncing ideas around and no social interaction…but productivity wise…it is much better! (Guess it depends on levels of self motivation too)
@Beanie0597 Absolutely right! School staff (however brilliant) aren’t trained or qualified…and could be making things worse despite good intentions. It need properly qualified staff and proper diagnosis (ie is it mental health issue or something else)
@macca_mjm @michael_merrick @pete___lee I think most schools would offer something if they knew a child hadn’t eaten…we certainly did. But this blanket policy does not seem like a practical, sustainable solution…it just sounds like a good idea without having substance.
@macca_mjm @michael_merrick @pete___lee Absolutely not….thats means tested and is needed. This is different. And it’s wonderful that some schools offer so much…but a blanket policy like this isn’t addressing where the real need is….its tokenism…
@educationgovuk@bphillipsonMP Wouldn’t it be better to encourage families to eat together? Maybe get up earlier to breakfast together? Communication skills and human interactions are being lost and it is impacting on children’s emotional development, which the impacts on behaviour. Think this is misdirected…
@macca_mjm @michael_merrick It is a parent’s responsibility and duty to feed their children. So fix the root of the problem not an after affect. If a school knows a child hasn’t been fed I am quite confident they feed them. But it shouldn’t get to that. So education and support in parenting…vital
@Michaela_1776@absolutelyamyyy Shouldn’t parents be responsible for their child’s behaviour, for ensuring their are appropriate activities to keep children busy or choosing appropriate venues eg quick service restaurants?
@Strickomaster @Kaetror@DennyTWright Yes you need to have taught and understand the challenges behind effective teaching, have hands on experience of managing a class of children day in and out and being responsible for their learning and development but the skill set is much more than that.
@Strickomaster @Kaetror@DennyTWright I totally agree, it is a job with huge accountability and responsibility that has the potential to make huge impact on children’s lives and future. It is both a privilege and challenge but I still disagree that you need to have taught for a specific amount of years.
@MrTeece_ Well looks like my headship of 2 successful schools over 14 years must have been a dream then! Am not saying it’s always going to work, but I think a more open mind would help as it can work. I think credibility comes from more than being a teacher for x amount of years.
@Kaetror@DennyTWright @Strickomaster 2 different contexts and the regimented rank structure doesn’t allow for ‘fast track’. But I still disagree that to be an effective leader you have to serve a specific amount of time. I’m not saying ‘no’ time but there shouldn’t be a time constraint.
