@heatlovesnature’s lightning talk brought up an interesting question: do people buy fast-fashion bc they know they only want to use the product for a short time, or is it more of a fiscal motivation? Would love to hear your thoughts! #ENVIR400
@usustainme Hahaha not me re-submitting my presentation multiple times because I kept recording a better version. Can’t wait to hear your talk! #ENVIR400
#TDIL tomatoes are technically a fruit, but the Supreme Court ruled in the 1893 Nix v. Hedden decision that tomatoes should be considered a vegetable for trade purposes...that’s why tomato paste on pizza is considered a serving of vegetables #ENVIR400
@langm77@sfmtweet It’s definitely a place by place experience and i’m glad you grew up on food you liked! I wish i could say the same about the public school in Hawaii i grew up in #envir400
My lightning talk will be about how our industrial food system presents itself in our public school system, and what we can do about it going forwards. Would highly recommend this book if you want to learn more! #envir400
“With more than 97% of children enrolled in schools operating 180 days per year, schools represent a unique medium in which to influence children’s eating habits and therefore change our food system” - Janet Poppendieck, Free For All (2010) #envir400
Huge shoutout to Dr. Williams and his various collaborators for the incredible research they have done on Puget Sound fish and rising CO2 levels. It was incredibly intriguing and i’m glad I got to listen! #Taleof2Fish
Here’s where further research might take place:
- Drivers of the potential tolerance of sablefish to low pH waters
- Species-specific sensitivity along salmon
- How other environmental factors and processes modulate the effects of lower pH waters
