@geostylegeo No. It was suddenly MUCH easier to chew, and to digest. The calorie expended to calorie intake ratio improved dramatically, to say nothing of much less bacteria. Cooking meat was almost certainly one of the most important great filters of humanity's development.

@geostylegeo It would somewhat depend on where you were geographically, and how adept a gatherer you were... but short answer, no. You would find it hard to get all the nutrients you'd need, even if you managed to get enough calories.

@AMaltmanWrites It's the same with thrillers - always a man's back, facing down a lonely road. I'd suggest this is down to two things... 1 that style was focus-grouped at some point, and found to resonate. 2 they are probably all designed by the same firm.

@geostylegeo As others have said, it all depends on what 'procure your own food' means in practice. If we mean 'survive off the land'... in all frankness, probably not. If we mean a three-monthly trip to a store three hours drive away? Yes, that would be absolutely fine.

One thing I wish I'd realized when I started this crazy project, is that writing is 95% editing (and that's conservative). Writing 100,000 words was surprisingly possible - editing it into a coherent narrative I can be proud of is REALLY hard. But I am adamant I will get there!
