At the Silicon Slopes Summit yesterday, I was asked if I could help people understand the scale of the global operations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I described the Church’s four overarching responsibilities:

-Learn and live the gospel of Jesus Christ
-Invite all to receive the gospel of Jesus Christ
-Strengthen and unite families
-Care for those in need

The Church’s operations are focused on accomplishing this mission. This work includes ensuring the successful operation and maintenance of almost 20,000 meetinghouses and approved facilities for 35,000 local congregations; 315 temples (with more to come); and four institutions of higher education—among many other things. In learning from the example of Joseph in the Old Testament who interpreted the dream for Pharoah, we are also grateful that in times of plenty we can save and prepare for the future when resources may be scarcer. This approach is necessary to accomplish the mission for which The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was restored—to bless the lives of individuals and families everywhere.
