@Tilengasafari Lodge is 100% CAGE-FREE
All eggs purchased & served at the lodge are sourced from suppliers whose hens are kept in cage-free systems. They are extending responsible tourism to farmed animal welfare & sustainable food sourcing. They have vegan & vegetarian dishes
We’ve created a #CageFree Directory as part of our strategy to connect cage-free egg producers with buyers across Uganda. 🐔🥚
Follow the link below to explore the directory and discover cage-free egg producers near you.

Our goal is to help reduce the suffering of hens confined in battery cages while supporting farmers who are adopting more humane egg-production systems.
We’re continually updating the directory and expanding it beyond the Kampala metropolitan area to include cage-free producers
🎉🐔 A WIN FOR HENS!
@PanamaSuperMrkt located in Kisasi has committed to 100% cage-free egg sourcing by 2030 across its supermarket, bakery & food court!
This is a significant step toward increasing demand for cage-free eggs in Uganda.
20% by 2026 → 50% by 2028 → 100% by 2030!
👏 A big win for hens! 🇺🇬🐔
Additionally, the supermarket and food court have increased their vegan offerings and will have a section dedicated to vegan food!
Imagine that 💃 🕺
And Ofcourse, they are participating in #ThriveAfricaVeganRestaurantWeek 2026 that’s happening in 17 African countries!

While UNBS recognises welfare concerns with conventional battery cages, its role is to improve standards rather than ban them.
We will continue engaging @MAAIF_Uganda and other stakeholders to restrict battery cages and promote higher-welfare, cage-free egg production.
Last week, Uganda Vegan Society met with Rehema Meeme of UNBS to discuss verification and standardisation of cage-free eggs in Uganda.
We discussed farmer engagement, credible on-farm verification and building confidence in cage-free egg sourcing.
COMING UP LIVE ON @coufamilytv with Rita Nandera
I’ll be hosted live on COU Family TV to discuss the welfare of egg-laying hens and the need to transition from battery cages.
We’ll explore why hen welfare matters, the limitations of battery-cage systems, what a responsible transition to cage-free production could look like, and how we can support farmers while building a more sustainable and humane egg industry in Uganda.
Let’s speak Luganda today😇
Check the attached images on how to tune in and join the conversation!

𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬: it is time to consider transitioning to a more humane way of raising hens one that respects their welfare while building a more sustainable future for poultry farming.
The question is no longer whether we can do better
The question is: why aren’t we?

𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐭-𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨
Scary, right?
Now ask yourself: would you be happy knowing your chicken or eggs came from a hen living like this?
This is the reality for millions of hens kept in battery cages, confined in tiny, overcrowded wire cages with little room to move.
#VegFest, we didn’t just talk about plant-based living we shared practical skills that participants can take home and use every day.
Attendees learned how to prepare nutritious and affordable dishes ie coconut beans, tomato & pumpkin soup, and tofu https://t.co/FVPA9C9ZDP
3. Influence policy and public investment
Advocate for policies, regulations, and public procurement that support plant-based food systems, animal welfare, and climate-smart agriculture.
Our Goal
To accelerate the transition to humane, plant-based food systems across Africa that reduce animal suffering, mitigate climate change, and improve public health and sustainable livelihoods.
2. Improve animal welfare outcomes
Reduce reliance on industrial animal agriculture and advance humane standards and practices for both farmed and companion animals.
