Distressing fact: In India, girls tend to be weaned earlier than boys. Why? Because breast-feeding acts as a contraceptive.
Families pressure mothers to wean the girl earlier so that they can get back to conceiving again so a boy could be had.
That's another level of sickness.
Rajasthan has one of the highest percentage of girls married under the age of 18 among Indian states—36 percent, according to a UNICEF report—and the pandemic has only exacerbated the situation.
