There is a concerted misinformation campaign run by various political parties that General Category constiutes a small share in the population and do not matter electorally.

It is not backed by data!

The data from various surveys are attached alongwith👇
The govt's own data disputes this fact.
According to 8 studies and the census undertaken by the govt between 1980 til date, the General Category population is between 30-31%.
If OBC-creamy layer is considered, General Category population would further increase by 3-5%.

Following is the data without OBC-creamy layer:
1. Scheduled Castes: 16.6% - 17%
2. Scheduled Tribes: 8.6% - 9%
3. Hindu and Sikh OBCs: 27-28%
4. Muslim and Christian OBCs: 16-18% (more than 85-90% of the Muslims and Christians are classified under OBCs)
5. General Category: 30-31%

"Though the share of SC,ST,OBC is 68.52% in government jobs, their reservation should increase further by 15% so that their representation is 85%"

These are submissions of Bihar BJP government in Supreme Court.

Earlier they used to say that reservation is required as SC,ST,OBC representation is less. But their own data is showing that almost 70% of the government jobs are with SC,ST,OBCs.
But still BJP says, so what? Reservation should be increased by another 15% to make SC, ST, OBC representation at 85%.
