A 20-Episode Nigerian Investigative Suspense Story
EPISODE 1 — THE LOCKED ROOM
11:47 p.m.
The rain had been falling over Lagos for almost two hours when Detective Adebayo received the call.
“Sir, we have a dead man at Victoria Island.”
“Who?”
There was silence.
Then the officer answered, “Chief Oladimeji.”
Adebayo sat up.
Everybody in Lagos knew Chief Oladimeji.
Businessman. Philanthropist. Politician's friend.
The kind of man whose name opened doors.
Ten minutes later, Adebayo arrived at the office building.
The security guard was shaking.
“Sir, nobody entered the office after 9:30.”
“Who discovered the body?”
“His personal assistant.”
Adebayo walked upstairs.
The office door was locked from inside.
They had forced it open.
Chief Oladimeji was lying beside his desk.
No weapon.
No obvious struggle.
Nothing appeared to have been stolen.
His expensive watch was still on his wrist.
His phone was on the table.
His wallet was untouched.
Adebayo looked around slowly.
“Where are the CCTV recordings?”
The security officer swallowed.
“Sir... they disappeared.”
Adebayo turned.
“Disappeared?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Who deleted them?”
“We don't know.”
Adebayo walked toward the desk.
Something caught his attention.
A glass of water sat beside the dead man's laptop.
He touched it.
Still slightly warm.
He checked his watch.
11:53 p.m.
Then he noticed something underneath the desk.
A tiny black envelope.
No name.
No address.
He opened it.
Inside was one photograph.
It showed Chief Oladimeji standing beside three men.
Adebayo recognized two immediately.
The third man...
He had never seen before.
On the back of the photograph, someone had written:
“DO NOT TRUST THE PERSON WHO SENT YOU THIS CASE.”
Adebayo stared at the message.
For the first time that night, he stopped thinking about the dead man.
He started thinking about himself.
Someone had expected him to investigate this murder.
And someone else was already afraid of what he might discover.
